JUNE 22, 2017, VICTORIA, BC – City Green Solutions is the 2017 recipient of the ENERGY STAR Canada Award for New Homes in the Sustained Excellence category.

"ENERGY STAR Canada exemplifies our government's commitment to improved energy efficiency as we transition to a low-carbon, clean-growth economy,” says Jim Carr, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources. “On behalf of Canadians, I am proud to recognize City Green Solutions for their efforts to increase the number of energy-efficient homes in the market, and for making it easier for consumers to save money and reduce energy use. All of today's award winners can be proud of their outstanding innovations in energy efficiency.”

“City Green Solutions is proud to be recognized by the government of Canada for our efforts with the ENERGY STAR program, and the related work advancing codes, energy labelling disclosure, marketing and training,” says Peter Sundberg, Executive Director of City Green Solutions (City Green). “Our team is motivated to continue collaborating with our utility, government and industry partners to advance the market for efficient, low-carbon, comfortable, and affordable to operate homes.”

City Green has demonstrated sustained excellence as an active participant in the ENERGY STAR for New Homes (ESNH) initiative. When British Columbia adopted the initiative in 2014, City Green actively championed the program by engaging industry professionals in building and promoting higher energy efficiency through ENERGY STAR certified homes.

City Green has been an active participant in the ESNH initiative by chairing the Technical Advisory Committee, resulting in the implementation of the ESNH Standard in the British Columbia housing market. With their efforts in promoting energy-efficient homes and ESNH, City Green has contributed to the advancement of energy efficiency in codes, voluntary energy labelling disclosure programs, and increased awareness of ENERGY STAR homes and products in the market.

Most recently, City Green developed the ENERGY STAR Features Campaign which was designed as both a consumer marketing campaign and an industry training initiative to foster greater understanding, and ultimately increased consumer valuation of ENERGY STAR products and homes. The campaign emphasizes the many non-energy features and benefits of energy-efficient products and homes.

City Green has also excelled in providing training and building capacity for builders, energy advisors and other stakeholders. City Green has designed workshops and free webinars for professionals interested in learning about the ESNH initiative, the EnerGuide Rating System, as well as building and marketing best-in-class energy-efficient homes.

City Green is an enterprising non-profit with a mission to excite, inspire and lead British Columbians in finding innovative home and building energy efficiency solutions. City Green is a licensed service organization delivering ENERGY STAR for New Homes Initiative in Canada, and the EnerGuide Rating System for new and existing homes. City Green also delivers innovative training, designs impactful marketing and communications materials, and develops and delivers a wide range of energy efficiency programs for BC utilities, the provincial government and municipalities.

ENERGY STAR Canada is a 16-year-long energy efficiency success story. The program is a voluntary partnership between the Government of Canada and 1,500+ organizations working to use our natural resources more wisely through greater energy efficiency. Behind each ENERGY STAR label is a product or home that is independently certified to use less energy and cause fewer of the emissions that contribute to climate change. ENERGY STAR is Canada’s simple choice to save energy, save money and save our environment. For more information about ENERGY STAR, visit www.energystar.gc.ca.
